MARIA (MARY) BAZIUK Peacefully, at the age of 94, on the morning of April 15, 2003, with her family by her side, Mary Baziuk (Lupkey) passed into the arms of Jesus. She was predeceased by William, her husband of 72 years, son-in-law Bill Kosowan, and granddaughter-in-law Patty Baziuk. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Anne Winter (Emil) of British Columbia, son John (Anne) of Winnipeg and daughter Elsie Kosowan of Winnipeg and son-in-law Jerry Drews of East Selkirk. Her grandchildren, Ron Baziuk (Maureen), Gary Baziuk (Gina), Cheryl Okapiec (Paul Hornung), Lorrie Truijen (Eric) and Larry Kosowan (Phyllis) will fondly remember the happy days with Baba at the farm and the gentle smiles that were part of her sweet nature. Great-grandchildren, Tara Baziuk, Jas Baziuk, Christopher and Courtney Okapiec and Lucas Hornung, Elanna, Katelyn, Jennifer, Sarah, Miranda and Jirah Truijen, Grant and Robin Kosowan were the apple of Babas eye and she was proud of their accomplishments and enjoyed each moment with them. She is also survived by other relatives and dear friends. Baba was born in the Ukraine on September 9, 1908. She spent the first 14 years of her life helping her mother and sister keep the family farm running. She also tended sheep. At a very young age she learned how to cook and bake bread. On June 23, 1923, Baba arrived in Canada with her mother. She met her husband, Bill in Vita and they were married in 1924. The couple settled, raised their family and farmed in Gardenton for 47 years. Upon retiring, they moved to the town of Gardenton where they lived for 20 years. Here Baba enjoyed cooking, gardening and entertaining guests. She was an accomplished cook and everything seemed to taste better at Babas house. Her perogies and holopci were exceptional with neighbours often requesting her to make some for them. Her generosity was second to none and nobody every left the house without an official care package. After Gido passed away, Baba lived alone for two years and then moved to live with her daughter Elsie. At her new home in St. Andrews, Baba enjoyed many family visits, loved watching the birds come to the feeders, and affectionately cuddled with her special cat "Trixie". As time progressed Baba needed home care and many special people came into her life. Each worker had their own special touch and are too numerous to name. We would like to thank all of them for their care and friendship. We would especially like to thank her regular workers, Laura and Yvonne. After a series of falls, Baba needed more care than we could give her at home. She moved to nursing home in October 2002 and resided her till her passing. During her final hours we would often whisper, "We love you". At one point she opened her eyes, looked at us and said, "I love you too". These were her last words, a legacy of her life in summary. Prayers will be said on Monday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 E. at Navin Road. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m. also at Green Acres. Pallbearers will be Ron Baziuk, John Baziuk, Wayne Bozyk, Paul Hornung, Eric Truijen and Larry Kosowan. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. John 14, "Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Fathers House are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am there you may be also."
