ANNA (KRAUSE) FROESE Born April 30, 1908 in Kronsweide, Ukraine. Died April 11, 2003 at Golden West Centennial Lodge in Winnipeg. The life of Anna Froese can be divided into three chapters. The first 40 years (1908 - 1948) were mostly hell on earth, often a desperate fight for survival. It was characterized by LOSS; of her husband and oldest son, conscripted by the Nazis; of her oldest brother, murdered by bandits in 1919; of her freedom, especially freedom of religion; of her home and land; of many friends and relatives who were exiled, tortured, raped, murdered in Stalins Utopia or Hitlers Paradise. The next 40 years, 1948 - 1988, were by comparison heaven on earth. It was characterized by GAIN; a new land of promise, of freedom and opportunity, a country called CANADA. She came to Canada in 1948, a mother with five children ranging in age from 4 - 17, at a time when there was no social assistance by government. Life was hard, but enjoyable. Her three sons, Jake (Clara), Frank (Verna), and Walter (Deena-Kay), became teachers, her two daughters, Erna Friesen (Peter) and Anita Penner (Henry) homemakers. Anna lived to enjoy 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She lived in the village of Springstein until 1958 when she moved to Winnipeg. The last 15 years were characterized by declining health, the main debility being loss of memory. She spent the last 12 years of her life at Golden West Centennial Lodge where she was treated like royalty by the dedicated and competent staff. Anna was devoted to her family. She loved her physical family, but her first love was her Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, Gods Church and Gods Work. She referred to the Bible as a gold mine. It was the foundation of her life. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Anna Froese is sleeping now, waiting for the resurrection. "We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed....the dead shall be raised incorruptible....this mortal shall have put on immortality." This was the ultimate, sure and living HOPE of Anna Froese. Funeral service will take place Monday, April 21, 11:00 a.m. at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Dr. with viewing prior to the service.
