SALLY SHIZUKO SHIKAZE (nee KATO) Peacefully at Golden West Centennial Lodge, Sally Shizuko Shikaze, at the age of 84, passed away on April 16, 2003, with her family at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Fred Satsuo, brother Shigenobu Kato, and sister Kimiko Furukawa. She is survived by her daughter Doreen Amadatsu; son-in-law Robert; grandson Jonathan; brother Tom Kato; nieces and nephews, Robert and Debra Kato, Richard and Ken Furukawa, and Donna Walthall. Sally was born in Aihoshi Kaseda-shi Kagoshima, Japan on November 26, 1917, and immigrated to Canada in May 1922. She married Fred Satsuo Shikaze in Mission, BC and lived in Vancouver until 1942. Sally and her family moved to Manitoba in 1942 and endured many hardships beginning a new life on the prairies. She was an active member of the Manitoba Buddhist Church, and participated in many horticultural events in the city. She enjoyed painting, travelling, gardening and entertaining her many friends and family. Her friends and family will miss her culinary skills and friendship. The family wishes to thank Sensei Ulrich for his visits to Mom during her last two years of illness. We would also like to express special thanks to the caring staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge and also to the staff at Oakview Extendicare. Viewing will be held prior to the service, which will be held Sunday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Manitoba Buddhist Church, 825 Winnipeg Ave., Sensei Frederick Ulrich officiating. A farewell service will take place Monday, April 21 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Buddhist Church, Golden West Centennial Lodge or the charity of your choice.
