KATHERINE (KAY) FROESE
Born: Aug 21, 1921
Date of Passing: Apr 19, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHERINE (KAY) FROESE August 11, 1921 - April 19, 2003 Peacefully and surrounded by the love of her family, our sister, aunt and great-aunt passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital on Saturday, April 19, 2003. Although hospitalized only three weeks ago, she had courageously battled cancer and other health problems for almost two years. It was especially difficult losing her beloved sister Helen to the same disease eight months ago, in August 2002. Kay is survived by her sister Anna. After the death of her father John in 1952 and her mother Anna in 1962, she also mourned the passing of five brothers, one sister, two sisters-in-law, one nephew and a niece. Besides her sister Anna, she leaves to cherish her memory three sisters-in-law, Frieda, Nellie and Eva Froese; nine nieces, seven nephews and their respective families in various parts of Canada. After a brief stint at Canada Packers, Kay found her lifes career when she joined the CNR at age 21. She worked there for 44 years, retiring from the Accounting Department at age 65. During those years she made many lasting friendships. She was also an avid athlete in her younger years. She played league basketball, golf, and loved downhill skiing, even going to the Rockies for skiing vacations. She had trophies to attest to her prowess. Kay was fiercely independent and had a bright and inquiring mind. She loved to read and to travel, whether to Europe, Australia, Fiji, or closer to home, from one end of Canada to the other. Many of her favourite holidays were spent in her travel trailer, crisscrossing the country or just camping. Our deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff on the St. Boniface 5E wing for the loving care and compassion they showed both Kay and her family, as her health deteriorated so rapidly. Thank you. Also, sincere thanks to family and friends for their help and support with visits, cards, flowers and prayers during this difficult time. A special thanks to Kays friend of almost 60 years, Beryl Larsson. Your visits always cheered her up, and you were there with support when she needed it most. Kay had very deep feelings for everyone of her large family. At the end she regretted that she had not been better at expressing this high regard and love; however, her actions said it all - she was always taking care of others. We all have special memories of her and while we will miss her greatly, we can only be glad she is finally free of pain and at peace...beyond the sunset - a great horizon....almost her final words. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street). In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Kays memory to a charity of ones choice. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
