RIVERS (nee MARTEL) January 27, 1927 - April 20, 2003 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of my wife, our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on April 20, 2003 at Seven Oaks General Hospital. Doris leaves to mourn her husband Jim of 54 years; daughter Donna (Rick) Mattern who were Moms primary care givers and closest friends, as well as her husband Jim; sons, Donald (Herman), James, Robert (Maria) grandchildren, Patricia (Michael) Leblanc, Jolene Rivers (Joe) and their mother Lorene Coleshill, Jenny (Kevin) Petersen, Andrew and Matthew Mattern, Adam and Megan Rivers; great-grandchildren, Cole and Riley. Also surviving are her sisters, Lorrie (John) Riel, Elsie (Jerry) Bessette, Freda Wilson, Rosemarie Johnson; her brothers, Walter Martel and Raymond (Sonia) Martel; and also her best friend Buelah Hasey. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave and Shirley Rivers, Nancy Cuthbert, Ann and Bruce Routley; and many nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded by her daughters, Patricia (1953) and Carol Lynn (2002) and son-in-law Walter Chabluk; her parents, Philomene and Abraham Martel; brothers, Steven, Nelson, Stanley, Alan; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Lewis Rivers. Mom was a very private person whose first priority in her life was her family. She was a generous person who would help anyone in need. Mom was very artistic and loved to draw, sew, can and cook. She made various outfits for her children and their friends as well. Mom also loved Avon products, jewelry, her china cabinets and scratch tickets. All of which she would give away. The family would like to thank Dr. MacMillan and the Seven Oaks General Hospital for the continued care given her. At Doriss request a private family service will be held. A reception to celebrate and honor her life will be held at the West Kildonan Legion, 1748 Main St., on Thursday April 24, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
