GEORGE DOUGLAS WALTON October 29, 1918 - April 20, 2003 On April 20, 2003, Mr George Walton passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital. His wife Jelena was at his side. George was born in 1918 in South Africa. In 1988 he and his wife moved to Winnipeg from Australia. George is survived by his wife Jelena, daughter Maris and son-in-law John Newlands, grandchildren Robert, Georgia, Francesca, and great-granddaughter Loren Jelena, in Australia, son Desmond and daughter-in-law Norma, grandchildren Rachel, Nerissa and Emelita in Winnipeg and son Alroy and granddaughter Nicole with her mother Joy in Toronto. George had a varied school teaching career until he retired from the position of Headmaster at St. Josephs Catholic School for children with disabilities in Cape Town, South Africa. He held memberships in the Knights of Columbus and the Lions International Club. His family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the loving, compassionate care given to him at Grace Hospital by the staff on Unit 3 North. Special thanks also to the many friends and well-wishers for their caring and understanding during Georges illness. George Walton, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, is deeply missed by his loved ones, but we find comfort in knowing he is now safely resting with the Lord, after his courageous struggle here on earth. He has gone home. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Corydon and Stafford, Winnipeg. George will be laid to rest in the Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley St., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully appreciate donations to the Grace Hospital, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg MB R3J 3M7.
