STEVE KOSTYNYK It is with deep sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father and grandfather during a stay at the Grace Hospital on April 21, 2003, at the age of 85. Formerly of Arbakka, MB and Steinbach, MB, Steve was born in the small farming community of Arbakka, to the late Mikilo and Elizabeth Kostynyk (nee Woronuik). He married Doris (Choboter) of Sundown in 1940. Settling in Sundown, MB, they had a mixed farm. Steve loved farming and also worked very hard in the logging industry for 40 years. He was "Master of the Chainsaw". During retirement in 1980, Steve and Doris moved to Steinbach and resided there until May 2002, when they moved to Winnipeg to be near family. He often spoke of his good friends in Steinbach whom he missed very much. Lovingly remembered and left to cherish his memory, his wife of 63 years, Doris; daughter Joyce (Joe) Marquette of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Lori, Daryl, Randy (Suzanne), Shelley, Chad and his mother Kay Thomas; brother Mike (Nellie) Kostynyk of Sundown; sister Lena (Mike) Gushliak of Surrey, BC; sisters-in-law, Anne Kostynyk of Winnipeg and Anne Kostynyk of Fargo, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also special mention of friends he spoke so often of, including Frank Marquette, who he worked with for over 16 years and has always maintained a close relationship. Steve was predeceased by his son Gerald; brothers, George, Bill, Nick, John, Ted, and sisters, Mary, Doris and Sophie. We wish to express our sincere appreciation to all the nurses and staff of 3 North at the Grace Hospital for their compassion and kindness. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., reception will follow at the Glen Eden Reception Centre. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Daryl Marquette, Randy Marquette, Chad Thomas, George McQuade, Amel Kostynyk and Richard Choboter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L OK6, or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
