GEORGE McCONKEY It is with great sorrow that the family of George McConkey announces his passing on April 21, 2003, at the age of 77. He will be lovingly remembered by Julie, his wife of 52 years; his sons, Jim (Susan), Bob, John (Heather) daughter Barb (Greg) grandchildren, Darcy, Josh, Sara and Ainslie; sister Irene and sisters-in-law, Jean (Russ), Bunny and Marg. George was born in 1926 and raised in Stonewall, MB. After completing his commerce degree he returned to Stonewall to take over the family business from which he retired in 1988. George was very active in the community. He was a charter member of the Stonewall Kinsmen Club, an Oddfellow, member of the Stonewall Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts of Canada, active member of the United Church as well as many other groups. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the Selkirk Hospital, as well as Stonewall Ambulance Paramedics. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stonewall District Hospital, Stonewall United Church, Arthritis Society or a charity of choice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the Stonewall United Church. Rev. Mary Best officiating. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
