Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLET SADLER After a brief illness, Violet Sadler peacefully passed away at Gladstone, MB on Monday, April 21, 2003. Born on April 13, 1909 in the Elgin district, she was predeceased by her husband Charles Orville in September of 2001; brothers, Harvey (Evelyn) Maguire, Melville (Wanda) Maguire; brothers-in-law, Charlie Flannery, Fred Grainger, Art Sadler, Milt (Mae) Woods, Ralph (Edna) Woods, Doug Peck, George (Gwen) Sadler; and sister-in-law Marian Sadler. Left to cherish her memory are son Barry (Diane) Sadler of Portage; and daughter Judi (Ted) Code of Gladstone; grandchildren, Tracey (Steve) and Curtis Code. She is also survived by sisters, Mae Flannery, Hazel Grainger, Jennie (Tom) Haslam, Elsie (Phil) Dorge; brother-in-law Len Sadler; sisters-in-law, Muriel Peck and Mary Sadler and their families. Mom lived much of her life on the farm moving to Elgin in 1985 and to Souris in September of 2002. She spent many happy hours using her horticultural talents to develop her showcase yards on the farm and in town, for which she received local and provincial honours. She participated in a wide variety of community activities being a member of St. Johns Anglican Church, Countess Rebekah Lodge, Whitewater Whirlers Square Dancers, Hartney Horticultural Society, Elgin Curling Club and Womens Institute. She was especially pleased to chair the 1970 Manitoba Centennial celebrations in Elgin, to be recognized as a pioneer of the district at the Elgin Centennial celebrations in 1999, and to serve as director and judge for the Manitoba Horticulture Board. Her hands were never idle, she filled many hours with quilting, ceramics, knitting, crocheting, flower arranging and cake decorating. She will be remembered always with great affection and will be missed by many friends and by her family. Funeral services will be held at Elgin United Church, Elgin, MB on Thursday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in the Elgin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elgin Foundation, in care of Brandon Area Foundation, Box 216, Brandon, MB R7A 5Y8 or to a charity of choice. Kowalchuks Funeral Home, Souris in care of arrangements.
