She is also predeceased by her parents, Fredrick and Mabel Wait; brothers, Leslie, Lloyd, Cecil, and Charles; and sisters, Reta, Bella, Marion, May, and Frances. Florence, the eldest of 14 children, was born September 19, 1909 in Morris. It was in this community Florence dedicated years of service to local groups and projects during her long life. Florence was recognized in 1984 with the Citizen of the Year Award, for her outstanding commitment to the community. Florence was a life member of the Morris Curling Club, Riverview Golf and Country Club, Morris Womens Institute, Morris Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the United Church Women. At the tender age of 84, after 30 years of organizing the Pioneer Partners food booth at the Manitoba Stampede, she hung up her apron. She was extremely community spirited and loved organizing which provided a personal satisfaction and outlet for her endless energies. In 1992 Florence sold her home and moved in the Parkside Villa. Here she enjoyed the company of many dear friends who enjoyed cards as much as she. Following several falls, Florence was grateful for the assistance provided by Home Care Services, especially Jan, Rita, and Collette. Florence was a loving and generous mother and grandmother, loved to be with people, and treated them with respect. Early in December, Florence suffered a stroke, and after weeks in the hospital, moved into the Red River Valley Lodge, where she was showered with the loving care of staff and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Fraser and staff at the Morris General Hospital for their compassionate care during her recent stay. A service to celebrate Florences life will be held on Monday April 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Morris United Church with Rev. Jeannette Brigit and Rev. Bob Stark officiating. Cremation has taken place. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Florences name to the Red River Valley Lodge or Morris United Church Memorial Fund, Morris, MB R0G 1K0.
