RUTH M. WILEY 1913 - 2003 Ruth Wiley (nee Inkster) died on Thursday, April 24, 2003 at the age of 89. Born and raised in Winnipeg and proud of it, Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Douglas, in 1987 and her five siblings, Harold, Jack, Mary, Colin and Norman. In addition to fine friends and many nieces and nephews, Ruth will be missed and celebrated by her daughter Pat (Jim) Whitehead of Vancouver; and her son Michael of Winnipeg; as well as her beloved grandchildren, Carla Whitehead of Calgary, Peter (Jill) and Andrew (Samantha) Whitehead of Vancouver, and Donald Wiley (Lynda) of London, England, Patrick Wiley of Denver, and Michael (Elizabeth) Wiley of San Francisco. Left also are Jenna and Taylor Whitehead of Vancouver and Olivia Wiley of San Francisco, the three beautiful great-granddaughters, whose treasured photos insured the twinkle in Ruths eye that started every morning. Always a proud Inkster and a staunch Winnipegger, she believed that there was nothing wrong with Winnipeg that a few less mosquitoes and a few more Grey Cup wins couldnt cure. Ever the lady, Ruth was a gracious hostess who was as quick with a self-deprecating assessment of her cooking as she was with a humourous comeback whenever defence was needed during the entertaining family dinners over which she presided. A typical Ruthism that we will all remember was her insistence that, "When I die dont say I passed away.... passing is something that Jack Jacobs and Dieter Brock used to do." For their kind and professional assistance, the family wishes to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital ICU. Funeral services will be held at St. Georges Anglican Church at the corner of Wilton and Grosvenor at 1:00 oclock on Friday, May 2, followed by interment at St. Johns Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who so wish may make donations to the Manitoba Cancer Society, the Manitoba Heart and Lung Association or the charity of their choice. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
