WO ROSS ALLEN WILKES CD2, CET (Retired) Ross passed away at Grace General Hospital, Sunday, April 27, 2003. Ross was predeceased by his parents, Victor Sanders Wilkes and Gertrude E. Wilson; also by his sister Winnifred Brown. He is survived by his brother Edwin (Ted) and wife Em; sons Victor, Garry (Noreen), grandchildren Ryan (Brenda) and Lisa; daughter Pamela Simmons (Wade), grandchildren Jim, Cristy, Brittany; loving wife Jan and numerous friends and neighbours. Ross was a unique individual with extraordinary strength of character. He will be remembered for the pride of achievements, one of them having just recently passing his Amateur Radio Licensing and receiving his call sign VA4RAW. Ross joined the Army as a boy soldier in August 30, 1944 and spent a total of 27 years in the military. He volunteered to go to Korea during the Korean War. This experience affected him his whole life. He retired from the military in 1971 and was called back to work as a civilian on the base at Kenaston and Taylor, and stayed there for another 20 years retiring in 1992. He was past Vice President of the Korea Veterans Unit No. 17 and member of the Legion Stonewall Branch, Elks Club of Inwood, RCEME and the Manitoba Amateur Radio Club. A celebration of Rosss life will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall, MB on Thursday, May 1 (today) at 2:00 p.m. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Wish Foundation.
