Date of Passing: Apr 27, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryYVONNE SOKULSKI (nee MILLER) On Sunday, April 27, 2003, Yvonne Sokulski (nee Miller), with her sisters and niece by her side, of St. Vital in the city of Winnipeg, passed away in St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 66 years, after a courageous battle with cancer and cerebral stroke. Her husband Jim predeceased Yvonne in December of 1998; and her parents John and Nellie Miller of Narol, MB in 1978 - 1979. She is survived by her brothers, Karol, Tony (Shirley), Len (Beatrice) sisters, Ruth Gaboury of Nanaimo, BC and Gloria Money of Winnipeg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Narol, MB, she attended Donald School and Lord Selkirk High School in Elmwood. After graduation, she began a secretarial career with various Winnipeg firms such as Imperial Oil and CIBC. Choosing early retirement, she and her husband Jim operated bedding plant green houses first started by her parents in Narol. After closing their business she and Jim retired to St. Vital along with their pet poodle "Poopsie". To occupy her retirement years, Yvonne embarked on a career with the Home Care Services of Winnipeg. As always, she entered the occupation of caring for the disabled with good cheer and enthusiasm which was normal for any of her endeavours. She treated her clients with care above and beyond the minimum requirements, which caused her clients to consider her as a friend rather than an employee. Throughout her year long illness her clients and lifelong friends kept in touch; offering genuine concern and heartfelt prayers for her recovery and comfort. Although she was unable to speak she communicated her appreciation of the sentiments expressed. For this and for the care given to her in the palliative care ward of St. Boniface Hospital the family is truly appreciative and thankful. It was Yvonnes wish to be cremated and her ashes interred with her husband Jim at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a contribution to either Canadian Cancer Society, or to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
