AGNES LAURA ESCOTT (CHAMBERS) October 21, 1902 - April 28, 2003 Agnes Laura Escott (Chambers) passed away peacefully April 28, 2003 at Meadowood Manor, in the presence of all her children. Agnes was born in Poplar, London, England October 21, 1902 and immigrated to Canada in 1907, settling in Winnipeg, where her father was employed by the CPR. As a young woman she worked in domestic service and for Eatons until her marriage to Fred Escott June 17, 1933. They raised their family in St. Vital and, except for 10 years in British Columbia, lived all their 64 years together in Winnipeg. Agnes lived a quiet life, loving nothing better than being surrounded by family. She was a game lady, ready to travel at the drop of a hat, and her trips to Hawaii were highlights of her life. She was noted for her wry, self-deprecating sense of humour. When you heard a roar of laughter from her vicinity, you knew Mom had launched another "zinger"! She was, above all, an unselfish mother. Only one cookie/serving/helping left? Her unfailing reply was, "Im not hungry; you take it." However, we learned not to phone when wrestling was on television; it afforded the family great amusement to see this little lady cheering on those great behemoths and loudly protesting if you dared suggest that the action wasnt "real". When Fred became incapacitated, she devoted herself to his care, while carrying on a love/hate relationship with his electric wheelchair. Agnes was predeceased by her siblings, Elizabeth, Lilian, Thomas and William; and her husband Fred in July, 1997. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Kenneth (Marie-Paule) of Kelowna and Harry (Oresia) of Montreal; also two daughters, Iris (Gunnar) of Sherbrooke, QC and Kathleen (Hayward) of Winnipeg. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home for their years of exceptional care and compassion. Flowers gratefully declined. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Agnes memory to a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, Milton Brown officiating, following a private family burial at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
