SCHOLASTICA (ANGELA) PILICHOWSKI, OSB Amid the lingering sound of joyful Easter alleluias, Sr. Scholastica Pilichowski peacefully gave up her spirit to God on April 28, 2003 at Seven Oaks Hospital. She was in her 64th year of Monastic Profession. Sr. Scholastica was born on January 25, 1911 in Dobrowody, SK, to Frank and Pauline (Sznajder) Pilichowski, the second oldest of six children. She entered the Benedictine Community in Arborg, MB on October 29, 1937 and made her Monastic Profession on July 11, 1939. Sr. Scholastica had a quiet disposition, was very prayer-filled and gentle and orderly in her ways. She served her God and community with a determined zeal and total commitment. Sr. Scholastica was meticulously tidy in her personal care. All her work reflected the same spirit of neatness, orderliness and deep care. She surrounded herself with various religious mementos as if to keep God always before her eyes. She has a special devotion to the Eucharist and the rosary. Throughout her many years of ministry she laboured mainly in home-making especially in the area of dietary. Her places of ministry included Arborg, Gimli, Camp Morton, Sifton, Winnipegosis, MB, and St. Pauls College (on Ellice Avenue), the convent on 317 Pritchard Ave. and St. Benedicts Monastery in Winnipeg, the latter two, at which she spent 12 joy-filled years responsible for the Altar Bread Department. Her last few years were spent in the Monasterys Health Centre due to aging and a general decline in health. Sr. Scholastica was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Pauline; her brothers, Marion, Michael and Henry; and sister Antonia. She is survived by the members of her Monastic Community, her sister Josephine (Canora, SK) and a cousin Edward Yasinski (Buchanan, SK). A vigil service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Benedicts Monastery, presided by the Prioress, Sr. Irene Burzynski, OSB. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 1, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedicts Monastery. Presider will be Msgr. Louis McCloskey. Interment will follow in the Monastery Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so wish, donations may be made in Sr. Scholasticas memory to the St. Benedicts Foundation, 225 Masters Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R4A 2A1. The Benedictine Sisters would like to express their gratitude to Dr. B. Gorski, the nursing staff of Seven Oaks Hospital and St. Benedicts Monastery Health Centre, and the many friends and volunteers for their generous care of Sr. Scholastica. May she rest in peace.
