BILL WOLAS August 15, 1957 - April 28, 2003 It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Bill Wolas on Monday, April 28, 2003, at the Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by his family and friends. He will be profoundly missed by his loving wife and best friend for over 20 years of marriage, Misty (nee Hughes) and their son Dallas; his mom Ann (Albert) mother-in-law June Hughes; brothers-in-law, Marshall, Sheldon (Debbie) and Jay; nephew Dustin (Jenny) auntie Eileen; special friends, Bruce Ault, Fran Edwards, Curt Reimer, Colleen and Matthew Brown, Cathy Hughes and Bob Lantz, the Davies family, Tunji Fatoye (you are one of a kind) and family; and our beloved pets, Pookee, Oakland, Callee and Hallee. Bill was predeceased by his father-in-law Frank Hughes in October 1983; and our other beloved pets, Mellannee, Amber, Jazmin and Chubb. Bill was born in Winnipeg and spent his junior and senior high years living in St. James (the ghetto). He graduated from Sturgeon Creek High School in 1976. Bill loved and excelled at every sport, he was truly a gifted athlete. His greatest passion was hockey, which he played up until the 2001-02 season while undergoing chemo treatments. Bill, you were a real trooper. His second love was baseball, but he hung up the glove to spend those warm summer evenings with Misty and Dallas and the pets. When Bill was diagnosed with leukemia in November 2000, he was employed at Wesmac as the Warehouse Manager. While working there he shared many good times with Fred, Paul and Vera. A memorial service celebrating Bills life will take place on Monday, May 5 at 3:30 p.m. in Deer Lodge United Church, 2093 Portage Ave. at Belvidere Street. Misty and family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and unit staff on GD6 and CancerCare for their wonderful care these last two and one-half years. Flowers are gratefully declined; if friends so desire, a donation in Bills memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or the GD6 Patient Comfort Trust Fund, 820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R2A 1R9. "Thank you to all who touched Bills life these last two and one-half years with your well wishes, phone calls and visits. I know Bill greatly appreciated the sentiments, and it made his life that much richer by having you all in it. I am eternally grateful, Misty." Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • It is two plus decades since Bill's passing. At that time online tributes were not that prevalent. Today I was thinking of Bill and Misty and came across this listing. Bill was an elite athlete (how was I was I on a team with him?), leader, agitator, tropical fish expert, gracious host, great teammate, penguin handler and very fun guy; as witnessed by me thinking about him 21 years later Misty. I hope you and Dallas are well. Bill many people miss you very much. Hugh.. teammate.. - Posted by: Hugh Malcolmson (Friend/Teamate) on: Feb 20, 2024
