JULIO DE CASTRO CORREIA May 23, 1919 - April 30, 2003 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Julio De Castro Correia, aged 83 years, at Calvary Place in Winnipeg with his family by his side. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his four children, Manuel (Connie), Avelino (Susana), Brian, Maria Rodrigues (Tony) and his grandchildren, Nelia, Candida, Emanuel, Celia, Ana, Michael, Andrew and Lexi; also his brother Bento and sister Maria in Portugal; great-niece Mary Carvalho (Rick) great-great-nephew Anthony; great-great-niece Katryna; nephew Joe Pereira and many more nieces and nephews in Portugal, Brazil and France. He was predeceased by his wife Ana (1981). Julio was born in Arcos de Valdevez, Minho Portugal. He immigrated to Canada in 1955 leaving his wife and two young boys behind on a violent stormy night to seek a better life for his family. Five years later he brought his wife and two sons to Winnipeg. Julio worked very, very hard for those five years picking tobacco leaves in the fields of Ontario and later in construction. In 1961 and 1964 two more children were born in Winnipeg. He always spoke fondly of Canada. Julio enjoyed going for walks in the summer time, he enjoyed playing traditional Portuguese music on his concertina and singing the traditional songs. Julio was a devoted Catholic and brought his children up with strong religious beliefs and principles. We, the family wish to extend a sincere thank you to the staff and volunteers at Calvary Place for the compassionate care they extended to our dad for the three years he lived there. Prayers will be held on Monday, May 5 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, 748 Keewatin St. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 6 at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Peters Church with Msgr. Maurice Comeault, P.H.,V.F. officiating. Interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
