JOYCE THERESE FITZMAURICE February 11, 1938 - April 29, 2003 At St Boniface Hospital, after a courageous journey with her Lord, in perfect peace and childlike trust, Jesus tenderly carried Joyce home to the heart of the Father to the place He prepared for her. Growing up Joyce attended St. Edwards, St. Marys Academy and St. Alphonsus Schools, and later George V and Tec Voc High School. As a young adult she went off to work in Banff and then Toronto where she began her career in advertising and the fashion industry, continuing it in Winnipeg and Montreal. In her later career she moved into administrative roles, and especially enjoyed her work with the Lions Foundation. In all that she did she loved to work for the Glory of God and to help and care for people. Joyce was predeceased by her former husband Steve Stankus; her parents, Jim and Stella Fitzmaurice; and close family Ann Marie and Gary Christie and their daughter Kathy Dyck; and her two cherished dogs, Sparkles and Muffie. Joyce leaves to mourn her only sister Dianne Fitzmaurice; an aunt and uncle Stanley and Jeanne Zluchowski; cousin Ed Fitzmaurice of Thunder Bay, Kathys brother Micheal Christie of Calgary; along with Joyces close circle of loyal friends and supports in her special ecumenical faith community. A warm thank you goes to Joyces long-time friend Pat Buckingham, and to Bea Weger, Marion Allen, Susan Glasgow, Sadie and Lydia Yoder of Kelowna, Jeremiah and Beth Lexier, Maureen Hennan, Bev Hawkins, Margaret LeMaitre, Madeline LeClerc, Edwina Massey, Maria, Gertrude, Robert, and Kathy Osadczuk, Glynnis Lieb, Eva Dyck, and Bill McDonald, Edna Craig, Therese Chatelain of Stratford, and Linda Dorian to mention a few. Their prayers, regular visits and phone calls, help and genuine concern supported and encouraged Joyce and Dianne so much especially through this past year. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Olweny, Dr. Crawford and all the staff of Oncology, Palliative and Pastoral Care at St. Boniface Hospital. The compassionate care of Sherry, Louise, Jennifer, Collette, Allison and Michele, as well as the visits, prayers and kind support of Rosalind and Sister Rose, and especially Father Lenoire, Father Ray Beaudry, and Pastor Logan was greatly appreciated. Joyce loved her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, her Comforter and Companion throughout the adversity and blessings of her life. She loved Gods Word, and wanted nothing more than to do His Will and to meet Him in people. Joyce experienced the healing power of Our Risen Lord in her life but especially in her death, and will be remembered for her smiling countenance and generosity of spirit, her caring and sharing with others, and her beautiful ecumenical faith. In trusting herself completely to Gods Holy Will, after "the bend in the road" as she waited for Jesus, Joyce glimpsed eternity... "Eye has not seen nor ear heard the things God has prepared for those who love Him." Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 2 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer, 264 Donwood Ave., North Kildonan, with interment at St. Vital Cemetery. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. In appreciation, donations may be made to St. Boniface Palliative Care, CancerCare or for Gods service to a denomination of your choice. Joyce would also smile to be remembered in a small act of kindness to a stranger or someone in need. God makes all things work together for good for those who have been called according to his purpose. Rm 8:28
