JOHN BRUCE HOGG SR. Peacefully on April 29, 2003 at Oakview Lodge, Winnipeg, Bruce Hogg, formerly of Warren. Bruce was born March 6, 1912 in Saskatoon, the first child of John Hogg and Mabel Cooksley. The family moved to Warren in 1919 where Bruce was raised and farmed with his father on land which remains in the family. On December 6, 1934 he wed Ruby Evelyn Nichol of Warren, beginning a happy marriage which lasted 68 years. They farmed until retiring into town in 1980 and spent many of their winters in Texas or British Columbia. He leaves behind his beloved wife Ruby; daughter Donna Webb; sons, Bruce (Pat) and Glenn (Margaret) sisters, Hazel Connell (Cam) and Wilma Tickle (Bob) sisters-in-law, Norma Hogg and Winnifred Miller; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Mervin and Jim and his son-in-law Ernest Webb. While his life revolved around his family, Bruce was active in the community as secretary of the local Manitoba Pool Elevator board for many years, a member of the board of the Warren United Church and as a coach of hockey and baseball teams in earlier years. He was also in demand in the district as one of the first licensed electricians after power arrived in the 1940s and enjoyed building and fixing projects of all sorts. In their retirement Bruce and Ruby travelled frequently and made new friends wherever they went. We will remember Bruce as a kind and generous husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was an example to his family and to the community. A funeral service conducted by Rev. Bev Ward will be held at Warren United Church, Friday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Warren Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Warren United Church. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
