HUGH LINDSAY MONKMAN Peacefully on April 30, 2003 at the Arborg and District Health Center, Lindsay Monkman, aged 73 years, of Pine Dock, MB, passed away with his family at his side. Lindsay was born at Loon Straits, MB on April 4, 1930 and was married to Edith Scott on February 6, 1949. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Edith, on November 26, 1997; his parents, Hughie and Kate; brothers, Stanford, Albert, Raymond, Edward and Thomas; brother-in-law, Siggi Sveinson and grandson Nigel Timothy. Remembering him are his children, Alfred (Darlene) of Selkirk, Clarence (Bonnie), Gordon (Linda), Violet (Clifford), Michael (Lorri) and Tim (Maureen), all of Pine Dock, Kevin (Dianne) of Leaf Rapids, David (Marlene) of Princess Harbour, Irene (Barry) of Snow Lake, Kris (Angela) of Winnipeg, and Barry (Olga) of Dryden, ON; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; special friend Rob; brother Jack (Joyce) sisters, Ruby Sveinson, Gladys (Bob) Oddleifson and Phyllis (Arthur) Roche; sisters-in-law, Elsie and Deanna Monkman; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Lindsay started commercial fishing on Lake Winnipeg at a very early age and fished all his life. He also worked on the Bradbury and at different sawmills as well as trapping. His daughter-in-laws remember full well how he enjoyed teasing as well as dancing, telling stories and visiting. An evening prayer service will be held on Friday (tonight) at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the Pine Dock Community Hall with Pastors Neill von Gunten and Orville Andres officiating. Interment to follow in the Pine Dock Cemetery. His sons will be the active pallbearers and his grandchildren will be his honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3B 0V9. Special thanks to the doctors and staff of the Arborg Health Center and to the friends and family who visited, brought food and who were there for support. It was greatly appreciated.
