SANDRA MAKARA (nee SIMARD) April 16, 1954 - May 1, 2003 On May 1, 2003, following a lengthy illness, peacefully, and surrounded by love, our Sandy went home to Heaven. Sandy was born in Bissett, MB, but lived most of her life in Winnipeg. One of Sandys great joys in life was country music, and dancing the jig. She thoroughly enjoyed going to the Saturday afternoon jamborees, and entering the jigging contests, of which she won many. She loved to kick up her heels. Sandys greatest joy in life, however, was her family. There was not a birthday or anniversary in the family that went without a card or a call from Sandy. Her loving and caring nature was felt by everyone in her life. Even during her illness, there was not a day that went by that she was not trying to do something for someone. A more selfless person, you could not find. Sandy is survived by her son Lennie Lavalee (Lonnie) daughters, Deanne Simard and Tina Makara; her father Lenard Simard; stepmother Gladys; stepdad Allan Kirton; sisters, Carol Podolaniuk, Donna Simpson, Shirley Minchin, LAnnie and Kelly Simard; grandchildren, Brittany, Talissa, Justin, Robert, Reanne and Hazlin; her best friend and cousin Corrine Tye; and a great many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sandy was predeceased by her sons, Robert Lavalee and Jason Simard; her mother Audrey (Brown) Kirton; sister Lynn Simpson; and grandmother Mary Rose (Nobess) Huber. Sandy will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew her. Services will be held at the Aboriginal Funeral Chapel, 724 Selkirk Ave. at Parr. Prayers and viewing will be held on Sunday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m. Cremation and funeral service will be held on Monday, May 5 at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Gordon Tye Sr., Rodger Nabess, Terry Mike Makara, Jerry and Derrick Stopchycki, Rodger Lavalee, Ryan Murdock and Trevor Banman. The family would like to thank all the staff and residents of the House of Hesed for all the love, compassion and friendship they bestowed on Sandy. All of you touched her and the family in a very special way. "May God bless you all." "On Mothers Day, and all through the year, we love you truly, Mother dear" Author Lennie Lavalee ABORIGINAL FUNERAL CHAPEL 724 SELKIRK AVENUE, 586-7700
