Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM ROYDEN (MAC) McLAUGHLIN William Royden (Mac) McLaughlin, 76, of Holmes Beach, died May 1, 2003, in Blake Medical Center, Bradenton, FL. Services will be at the YMCA, 3805 - 59th St. W., Bradenton, at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 5. Born November 24, 1926, in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, he was the eldest son of Harry Royden McLaughlin and Viola McLaughlin (nee Hawkins). Mac was one of Canadas finest volleyball players in the 1950s and 60s. He was captain of the Canadian Volleyball Team for the 1963 Pan Am Games in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He was named YMCA Athlete of the Year and an All American Athlete in 1958, and was inducted into the Manitoba Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2002 for his many years of play with the YMCA Redskins. Mac served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. He lived in Winnipeg until 1965, when he moved his family to Minneapolis, MN. He moved to Holmes Beach in 1992. He was a salesman and a licensed real estate agent, and noted for his irrepressible sense of humour and positive attitude. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Orchard, of Holmes Beach; three children, Neil in Middleboro, MB, Ross and Ann in Hudson, WI; sisters, Arlene and Lenore; brothers, Don, Doug, Alan, and Bruce; grandchildren, Michelle, David, Dennis, and Ryan; and three great-grand-children. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the YMCA in Bradenton or Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Holmes Beach.
