ARTHUR WILLIAM GRANT 1913 - 2003 Peacefully with family by his side Art Grant, in his 90th year, passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital. He was born June 8, 1913 at Rapid City, MB and educated at Minnedosa, MB. Art is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Cheryl (Rick), son Greg (Kathy) and grandchildren, Michael (Linda) Ricki, Jennifer (Philip), Dave and Sean. Art is also survived by one brother George (Mabel) and stepson Bob Lawson and his family and stepdaughter Judy Finch and her family. Art was predeceased by his first wife Betty Price, brother Jim and parents, Walter and Ellen. Art joined the R.C.A.F. and transferred to the R.A.F. in early 1941. He was posted to a Radar station at Scapa Flow and shortly after was promoted and put in charge of a radar station on the Scottish mainland. Early in 1942 Art took a radar unit to Egypt and for the next two years served in Libya, Palestine, Syria and Iraq and provided along with another R.A.F. unit, air raid warning for the Big Three Conference at Teheran. He later participated in an unsuccessful invasion of the Greek Island Leros in the Aegean Sea. On two occasions he set up radar stations in Turkey after being attached to the British Consulate in Izmir. Art returned to Canada with English wife Betty in 1945 and was stationed as a technical officer at a radar station on Vancouver Island until his discharge in the autumn of 1945. After his service Art returned to C.P Rail in Minnedosa as a locomotive foreman and engineer, and in 1955 was promoted to Divisional Road Foreman of Engineers (Brandon). Art was later promoted to Regional Road Foreman of Engines (Winnipeg) in 1966 and retired in 1974. For the next 16 years Art taught electronics at Red River Community College (extension service). He enjoyed the cottage at Falcon Lake, golfing, playing bridge and visiting with friends. A graveside service will be held at a later date for family.
