Date of Passing: May 02, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY EMMA PLAYFAIR (nee CHAPPLE) It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Playfair, May 2, 2003, at the Grace General Hospital, with her family by her side. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Don (Maureen) and their children, Daniel (Tiffany) and Erin; daughter-in-law Elilah and her children, Shirley, Rita (Phillip) and Stacy. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Donald, January 1983 and by her eldest son David, October 1983. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg July 6, 1918. She grew up in the West End of Winnipeg and attended Isaac Brock and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. The women of her high school graduating class held an annual reunion for over 50 years and she was very proud to be a member of that group. Dorothy also attended Success Business College and shortly after graduation accepted a position at Playfairs News Agency, where she met her future husband. Don and Dorothy were married in Winnipeg on July 1, 1939. They raised their family in Charleswood and other than a few months spent in Brandon and Regina while Don was in training as a photographer for the R.C.A.F., she lived all of her life in Winnipeg. While her life revolved around her family, she did return to the workforce in the early 60 as a medical secretary at the Winnipeg Clinic. She enjoyed her time there, particularly because of the good friends that she made. Dorothy was a quiet and private person who enjoyed working in her garden, reading a good mystery novel or doing a crossword puzzle. Both Don and Dorothy were very proud of their sons and grandchildren and were extremely supportive of them. A mother is your first cheerleader, a grandmother a close second. The family would like to express special thanks to all of the medical personnel that were involved with Dorothys care at Grace General Hospital. Flowers gratefully declined. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Dorothys memory to the charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave., at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 8, with Lieutenant-Colonel Maxwell Ryan officiating. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
