ERNA KUKELKO It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Erna Kukelko on May 5, 2003 at the age of 89 years. Erna was born in 1913 at Lowe Farm, MB, spending most of her young years at Sanford, MB. In 1936, Erna married Gordon Bach. Tragically, Gordon succumbed to polio in 1939. In 1949, Erna married Langan Kukelko. Together they raised one son Will Kukelko to whom they were very devoted. Erna and her son Will shared a very special relationship, spending many hours together. Erna was a "coffee connoisseur" and she and Will used to spend many hours visiting over a cup of coffee. These special times will always be remembered. Throughout her life Erna was employed firstly by her uncle Fred at The Silver Grill, followed by Reid & Reimer Printing, Avon, and lastly at the Oriental Pearl Restaurant. Erna was a great animal lover and especially loved her cats. She loved to go to the cottage when she was able and enjoy nature. Erna was predeceased by her husband Langan; also by her parents, Frank and Elsie Krueger; two brothers, Charles (Elsie) Krueger, William (Dora) Krueger; and just last May her sister Freda Blanco. Left to mourn her passing is her son Will and devoted daughter-in-law Judy who was always there for her, a pillar and support to the family; grandchildren, Jared and Jennifer whom she spent many hours babysitting when they were young and they in turn shared pleasant times with "Grandma" in her later years. Besides her immediate close-knit family her nephew Robert (Lois) Krueger, great-nephew Justin (Analeza) Krueger and great-niece Jessica Krueger also survive her. Justin held a very special place in Ernas heart and she treasured his visits and found them most encouraging. An Aunt Anna Peterson with whom she spent many hours talking on the phone, as well as her cousin Margaret of whom she was very fond also survives her. Erna also held a fondness for her friend Edward Kernaghan who was always on call to help her before she moved in with her son and Shirley Nicholson who was always ready to help. She was especially fond of her cousin Don (Anne) Karlenzig and enjoyed his weekly visits helping her with her study of the Bible. In her earlier years, Erna shared her beliefs as one of Jehovahs Witnesses. Though for the past number of years she was not actively able to do this, her Bible knowledge and regular studies with Don helped to fortify her with Jehovah Gods promises for the future when very soon sickness, old age and death will be removed by means of Gods Kingdom (Rev. 21:3, 4). The family would like to thank all the home care workers especially Lisa for her kindness and devotion. Also a big thanks to Dr. Dillon and Jean of Klinic and Doctors and nurses and staff of the Victoria Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 1:00 p.m. at the Thomson Chapels, Broadway and Furby with Mr. Orest Allison officiating. Cremation has already taken place.
