CAROLE-ANN BALL (nee RANTA) It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Carole-Ann with her family by her side on May 8, at the age of 58, at the palliative care facility of St. Boniface Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Jim, and their children Fred (Lynn), Geoff, Dot (Garth), and our little dog, Parker. Carole-Ann is survived by her father, Wester Ranta of Sudbury and brothers Bruce Ranta (Lil) of Kenora, and Barry Ranta (Nicole) of Sudbury. She was predeceased by her mother Kaarina Ranta and sister Sandra Koncz, both from Sudbury. She will be deeply missed by her cousin Linda Huhta-Ash (Dennis) of Winnipeg. Carole-Ann was born and raised in Sudbury. She received her B.A. from Laurentian University in Sudbury, and her Honours Degree in Geography from the University of Waterloo. During the 20 years she lived in Winnipeg, she worked at various jobs. She particularly enjoyed being the coordinator of student groups at the University of Manitoba. Carole-Ann also excelled in duplicate bridge as a player, teacher, and organizer. However, Carole-Ann will best be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother. The family would like to thank everyone who cared for her -- particularly Dr. Glew and Dr. Wong and the palliative care staff at St. Boniface Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service of friends and family will be held on Monday, May 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the Garry Memorial Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Carole-Ann enjoyed flowers, or if friends wish a donation could be made to the Manitoba Genealogical Society, Unit E, 1045 St. James Ave., Winnipeg, R3H 1B1.
