MIKE ZASITKO It is with sadness that we announce the passing, on Sunday, May 11, 2003, of Mike Zasitko, formerly of Poplarfield, MB, at Holy Family Residence at the age of 93. Mike was born on November 16, 1909 in Poplarfield and was the eldest of seven children born to John and Paraska Zasitko. He was predeceased by his father in 1962; mother in 1974; brothers, Tom, Fred, Bill and Joseph; and sister Annette. He is survived by his brother Peter; sisters-in-law, Elsie (Peter), Rose (Fred) and Anne (Bill) and numerous nephews and nieces. Despite his hearing impairment which happened to him around the age of 21, Mike owned and operated Poplarfield garage in the 1940s and 50s. He retired to the family farm and resided there until 1991 and then took up residence at Holy Family, which he came to feel as his "home". His family would like to acknowledge and thank the nursing staff and care workers for his excellent care and friendship. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2W 1T9. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. in the Poplarfield Community Hall, Poplarfield. Interment to follow at Poplarfield Community Cemetery.
