MARIE BROOKS July 13, 1949 - May 12, 2003 Loving wife, mother, aunt, sister, friend and mentor, Marie, was born in Brandon, MB and raised on the Brooks family farm near Chater, MB. After graduating from Elton Collegiate, Marie went to Brandon University where she earned her Teaching Certificate. She moved to Winnipeg and spent one year teaching there before taking a permanent position with J.A. Cuddy School in Sanford, MB where she taught for more than 30 years. Marie loved sports, especially racquetball at the "Y" and golfing at St. Boniface Golf Club where she met many wonderful friends. Marie was an avid reader and always gave her nieces and nephews books for their birthdays and at Christmas time. She loved traveling and camping with Bob, taking Smokey for long walks in the woods, sitting by a fire just relaxing, and looking at the stars, now she is one of them. On Monday, May 12, Marie passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital. Left to cherish her memory are her life partner and loving husband Bob Hodgson; two children, Tina and Sean Hodgson; three brothers, Allan, Ron (Anna), and Bruce (Karen) her nieces and nephews, Rhonda and Robert (Allan), Ronnie and Robin (Ron) and Joey, Amanda and Mitchell (Bruce) aunts, Phyllis and Ebby, and her uncle James. Marie was predeceased by her parents, John and Winnie Brooks. A celebration of Maries life will be held Friday, May 16 at 4:00 p.m. at Garry Memorial, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In keeping with Maries wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. G. Singh, Dr. M. Raabe and Dr. E. Pascoe, who performed emergency heart surgery on Marie last May which gave her another wonderful year of life with her family and friends. And, special thanks to Dr. E. Pascoe, Dr. M. Raabe, and the entire team at the St. Boniface Hospital for their gallant efforts in trying to save Maries life once again this past week. We wish to thank the staff on B2 for their kindness, compassion and support through this very trying time, especially Robyn and Jackie. A special thanks to Catherine Prudhomme at the Re-Fit Centre for going that extra mile in supporting both Marie and Bob during the recovery period after her first surgery. Condolences can be sent to bhodgson@mts.net Garry Memorial Funeral Home Cemetery and Cremation Centre 925-1120
