R.S. "STEW" McKAY It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of R.S. "Stew" McKay which occurred at the Minnedosa Health Centre on April 20, 2003. Stewart married Elsie Cuyler in 1952 and became Dad to Marlene, Keith, Diane, and Linda. In 1954 they had a son Robert "Bob" McKay. Stew is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elsie; his son Robert (Karen) and their children, Meaghan, Heather, and Jennifer; also Marlene Fraser; Diane (Harvey) Carter; Linda (Larry) Clark; and their families. He is also survived by his sister Ruth Hodges; and his brothers, Alex (Florence) and Neil (Shirley). He was predeceased by his mother, father and Keith Cuyler. Stewart was born in Clanwilliam, MB on November 19, 1925. He attended Grey School in Clanwilliam. He joined the Navy at age 16 and fought in France and Germany before the end of the war. After the war, Stew bought the B.A. Station in Clanwilliam, and operated the garage with his brother Alex. He sold that business and worked for the C.P.R. in Minnedosa. He then joined the Manitoba Liquor Commission and managed stores in Churchill, Thompson, Winnipeg and Minnedosa, retiring in 1985. In retirement life, Stew and Elsie lived in Minnedosa, Victoria, BC, and enjoyed cottage life at Clear Lake and Ditch Lake. Stew was a lifelong Mason and later a Shriner. In his early years, he was active in the Kinsmen and Lions Clubs. In 2002, Stew was presented with his 55-year pin from the Royal Canadian Legion. Stew enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed entertaining his many friends, especially at Ditch Lake, on his deck and on his pontoon boat. Stew will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, Minnedosa, MB. 867-3868.
