AUGUST ALBERT EPLER 1911 - 2003 Peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2003, August aged 92 years of Carman, MB returned to his Lord after complications arose due to a seven week hospital stay for a fractured leg. August was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Charlotte; brother Jake; sisters, Annie Norton, Elizabeth Wroblesky, and Minnie in infancy; plus other family members; brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephews and nieces. August will be sadly missed by Elizabeth (Beth), his wife and partner of 62 years; his son Gary (Rosemary) of Brunkild, and family Corinne (Tim) Reinsch and children Nicholas and Travis of Brunkild; Steven (fiancee Andrea) and son Damian of Brunkild and David (Maureen) and children Renee and Carver of Sanford. August is also survived by son, Dennis (Marilyn) of Strathmore, AB, and family, Pamela (Aaron) Betke of Edmonton, AB; Matthew (fiancee Erin) of Calgary, AB and Daniel (D.J.) at home. He is survived by five sisters-in-law, many cousins, nephews and nieces. August was born in Winnipeg, MB, on February 16, 1911. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Pauls Lutheran Church, in Brunkild. He attended school at Brunkild and had many stories to tell of his early days at school. He married Elizabeth Goetz of Franklin Municipality Manitoba on November 2, 1940. They farmed at Brunkild until 1973. He took interest in community work, served on church council and as a church treasurer, school trustee and lent a helping hand at carpentry work at the church, hall, rink and many other places. August and Elizabeth moved to Carman where he continued to do carpentry work for three years. He took pride in building their last house, which they lived in for 11 years, after he retired. In 1988 they moved in to the Fifth Avenue Apartments where they have resided for 14 years. He took great joy in everything he did and was able to do at his age. He enjoyed a round of golf whenever possible and to play bingo. He gave up driving his car in fall of 2002. Viewing will be held on Sunday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Doyles Funeral Chapel in Carman. The interment will be on Monday, May 19 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Pauls Cemetery, Brunkild, prior to the service. Memorial service will be held on Monday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Brunkild, with Pastor Greg Fowlie-Neufeld officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren; Corinne Reinsch, Pamela Betke, Steven Epler, Matthew Epler, David Epler, Daniel Epler. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Health Sciences Centre, and Carman Memorial Hospital; Evelyn Gaetz, Kay Jones, and Doreen Sharpe. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the St. Pauls Lutheran Church Wheelchair Fund or a charity of ones choice. Doyles Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
