ALICE LOUCKS (nee JOHNSON) February 5, 1938 - May 14, 2003 With her family by her side, Alice passed away peacefully at the Pine Falls Health Complex on Wednesday, May 14, 2003. Alice was born February 5, 1938 in Churchill, MB to Reubina and Henry Johnson. Her family moved to Sherridan when she was 12 years old, and there she met Dave, while clerking in the store. Alice and Dave were married in The Pas, MB on October 7, 1957 and began their married life in Winnipeg. Their son Keith was born in Winnipeg in 1960 and after moving north, their daughter Kristine was born in 1964 in Flin Flon while they resided in Island Falls, SK. Alice and her family moved to Snow Lake, MB in 1966 and later to Pine Falls in 1971, where she and Dave spent the last 32 years. Alice was employed at the Royal Bank from 1980 until she retired in 1994 in order to enjoy her grandchildren. Alice was a very kind and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend. She was not afraid to stand up for her beliefs. Over the years, she helped many people: family, friends and strangers, being well known for her very giving nature, but unwanting of accolades. Alice was a very active member of the Pine Falls United Church Womens Group, having held many offices over the years. Together with Dave, they have inspired many beginners in the game of badminton as they ran the Pine Falls Badminton Club for 30 years. Many of their players have gone on to spread Alices love of the game to other communities. Alice and Dave have represented their club at many mixed doubles events over the years. Alice also played many years of ladies doubles with Rita Kulyk, winning the right to represent the Eastman Region at the 1986 Provincial Winter Games in Flin Flon, MB. Alice had a passion for the card game of bridge, at which she excelled. Together with partner Jean Mitchell, they won the Eastman Senior Regional Bridge Tournament held in Steinbach, MB in 1997. This moved them on to the Manitoba Provincial Tournament in Gimli, where, unfortunately, the cards did not support their good play. Alice kept her family prepared for cold winters with her beautifully knitted mitts and socks. She was also an avid reader and a wonderful baker. Alice is survived by her loving husband Dave of 45 years; her son Keith and his wife Claudette and their children Daniel, Alicia, Malorie, Connor and Ben of Kenora, ON; her daughter Kristine and her husband Vince Ogrodnick and their children Erikka and Aaron of The Pas, MB. Alice leaves her brothers and sisters and their families: Herb (Renate) Johnson, John (Myrna) Johnson, Gladys (Bill) Kipling, Irene (Hank) Roik, Ed (Cecile) Johnson, Louise (Jim) Houldsworth, May Metke, Art Johnson and Grace Delaronde. Alice also leaves her brothers and sisters-in-law and their families: Ed (Georgina) Loucks, Bessie (Ross) Robertson, Joyce Olson and Stephanie Du Laux. Alice will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her parents, Reubina and Henry Johnson; and her sister Tillie Sangster. Without the wonderful compassionate care of Dr. Oelofse, Alices family doctor, and the many doctors and nurses at the Pine Falls Health Complex, Alices final days of her courageous battle with cancer would not have been so comfortable and peaceful. A celebration of Alices life will be held on Monday, May 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pine Falls United Church in Pine Falls. In lieu of flowers, if family and friends so desire, donations may be made in Alices memory to the Pine Falls United Church, Box 597, Pine Falls, MB R0E 1M0.
