Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMABEL LINNEA McKENZIE Mabel Linnea McKenzie died peacefully on May 5, 2003 with her daughters Lynne and Tannis at her side. Her courageous 14-year battle with cancer continued to the end, her spirit and kindness to those around her made her the Champion of strength. She is survived by Lynne (Ed) Sawchuk, Tannis (Pat) Somerville; grandsons, Robert (Morrie), Matthew, Adam and Eric. Loving sisters, Selma Hudson and Edith Holdsworth; and sister-in-law Stella Hill; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Eva, Hulda, Vera, Annie, Edwin, Ernest and Kenneth. Born March 28, 1916 in Erickson, MB, Mabel spent many years there prior to moving to North Vancouver, BC, in 1960. Over these years she adopted an extended family of wonderful, caring neighbours who meant the world to her. Lasting friendships with co-workers at Woodwards completed her circle with the many children she cared for throughout her retirement, joining in the centre. At Mabels request there will be no service. She will be interred at a later date, in Erickson, MB, with her daughter Terese who died in childhood. In her final days the wonderful care and compassion that was provided in the Lions Gate Hospital Palliative Care Unit will always be remembered. In lieu of flowers donations to the Unit was Mabels request and would be gratefully accepted. Address: 231 East 15th Street, North Vancouver, BC V7L 2L7.
