MARY OLYNYK On Wednesday, May 14, 2003, one of our angels living on earth was spirited away from us to her rightful, eternal resting place in heaven. Left to cherish her loving memory are her husband Peter, her son Robert (Gloria), grandsons, Jason and Justin; her sisters, Helen Kozak and Stella (Bill) Gettis; and her brothers, Ed and Gerry (Betty) Chymko; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was born in Winnipeg and educated in Saskatchewan. As the eldest of 11 siblings, she helped raise her younger brothers and sisters. When she returned to Winnipeg to study nursing, she met and fell in love with her soulmate Peter. Their mutual love and respect for each other spanned five days short of 65 years of marriage. She was a loving wife, a dedicated mother, a wonderful mother-in-law, a caring grandmother, a cherished family member and a valued friend to all who were fortunate enough to have ever been touched by her kindness and grace. Marys long and full life spanned more than 88 years, enriched by warm relationships with family and friends. Family was most important to her. She was a beautiful, kind and gentle person of great integrity, class, honesty, grace, generosity and fairness. She displayed an immense pride and interest in the lives and accomplishments of her family and their happiness was always paramount to her. She was a caring and giving person, always placing everyone else ahead of herself. The family acknowledges with gratitude the compassionate care of the staff at Misericordia Place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 20 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. Interment to follow at the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
