NELLIE GRZEBENIAK (nee SZEWCZYK) Peacefully on May 16, 2003 at the Fred Douglas Lodge, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother passed away at the age of 95 years. Nellie was predeceased by her husband Stanley in 1989, her parents, John and Mary; her sisters, Rose, Stella, Regina, and Ella; and brothers, Joe and Nick. Remaining to cherish Nellies memory are her children, Larry (Liz), Evelyn (Tony) Bach, Ron (Darlene), and Ken (Cheryle) her 15 grandchildren, Wendy (Clark) Myers, Tammy (Rob) Kiliwnik, Barry (Karey Feere), Michael Bach (Cindy Smith), Edward (Bonnie) Bach, Raymond (Karen) Bach, Roslyn (Dave) Kornell, Tracy Salt, Cindy, Ronnie (Randy Smith), Ronald (Lisa Delgrosso), Charity (James Worthing), Pamela Carriere, Clint (Shannon), and Canice (Mark) Spitzer; 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and sister-in-law Mitzi Shewchuk. Nellies life spanned just over 95 years. Nellie was born on November 8, 1907 in Rembrandt, MB. On October 17, 1931 she married Stanley Grzebeniak. They moved to Morweena, MB where they farmed and operated a general store. In 1933, they had their first son Lawrence, in 1935 their daughter Evelyn arrived. In 1942 Stan got a job as a painter at C.N.R. and in 1944 the family moved back to Winnipeg. Two more sons arrived, Ronald in 1943, and Kenneth in 1947. When her children were grown, Nellie went to work at the Fort Garry Hotel doing catering and bartending. Nellie and Stan loved to travel, especially to Wisconsin, Toronto, Chicago and Prince Albert. Unfortunately while on vacation in 1973, Stan had a massive stroke. From that day up until his passing in 1989, Nellie devoted herself to looking after him. Nellie always put her family first. Her size was very deceiving... who would have thought you could pack so much independence, devotion and love into such a slender figure. Rest in Peace Nanny. We Love you! The family would like to thank the staff at the Fred Douglas Lodge for their care and compassion. A very special thank you to Lorraine and Cheryl. Funeral service will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21 with Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Interment and reception to follow. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
