ALMA LEONA HOUSTON (nee HAINE) It is with deep sorrow that our family mourns the passing of Alma Leona Houston, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, at the age of 92 years. Alma died peacefully at her home at Riverview Health Centre on Saturday, May 17, 2003. Alma leaves to cherish her memory her only daughter Patricia Anne Hendrickson, her grandchildren, Maureen (Francois) Bouchart of Calgary, Rod Hendrickson (Kari Marks) of Winnipeg and Catherine (Michael) Garland of International Falls, MN. She was also greatly loved by her four great-grandchildren, Christian, Caitlin, Leigh-Anne and Lauren. Alma is survived by brother Earl Haine, sisters, Dorothy Venables and Audrey (Bud) Daniels and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley George Houston in 1989, brothers, Carl and Wilfred Haine; sister Elsie Schick, and very recently by her only son-in-law Melvin Hendrickson. Alma was born on October 9, 1910 in Winnipeg, one of seven siblings. She married Stanley Houston on August 15, 1936 and was blessed with her only child, Patricia Anne, in July 1940. After marriage, Alma devoted herself to the care of her family. Grandma enjoyed the simple pleasures of life - working in the flower garden, sewing clothing for the grandchildren, and quilting for her family. She had a wonderful creative touch and in her later years she produced some beautiful miniature watercolours. She was a great cook, with a real sweet tooth, and loved to have a gathering for Sunday dinner, but more than anything she enjoyed spending time with her family. Her great-grandchildren gave her much joy in her later years and her face would light up whenever she saw them. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the nursing and support staff of the Riverview Health Centre (Unit D4) where Alma was a resident for her remaining years. They became her family close-at-hand and the kind and gentle care she received were a great comfort to her family. A private family service will be held at the chapel of Riverview Health Centre on Wednesday, May 21 with Rev. Milly Malavsky officiating. Flowers gratefully declined but if friends so desire, donations may be made in Almas memory to the CD4 Memorial Fund, Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, R3L 2P4. Love lives on forever, It will never fade away, In our hearts, Grandma, You are with us everyday.
