STEFAN (STEVE) KOZAK Steve passed away on Friday, May 16, 2003 at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his son Dennis (Lillian) daughter Kathy Harman (Stu) grandchildren, Marlis Krueger (Ben), Wade Kozak (Natasha), Paul Harman, and Jacquie Barrett (Adam) and great-grandchildren, Carsten Krueger, Justine Krueger, Juliet Kozak, Harrison Kozak, Ryan Kozak, Theodore Kozak, and Cole Harman. He is also survived by brothers, Nick Kozak (Helen) and Billy Kozak (Lottie) sister Olga Charambura; brother-in-law, Jerry Budyk; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Minnie) in 1997; his parents; brother-in-law Gene Charambura; and sister-in-law Winnie Kozak. Pop was born in 1919 in Ukraine and immigrated to Canada at the age of 10. He lived in Old Kildonan with his parents and in 1948 married Minnie Budyk. They moved to Transcona in 1951 and resided there for 50 years. Pop was employed at the CNR shops in Transcona for many years until he retired in 1983. He spent the last several years initially at Misericordia Hospital and then at Park Manor Nursing Home. Both Pop and Mom had many memorable train trips across Canada. They enjoyed spending their summers at their cabin at Rice Lake, ON for over 30 years. He enjoyed picking blueberries, fishing, gardening, visiting with friends, and tinkering around the cottage. Pop had a unique personality and found humour in everything. We are proud of the way he successfully supported his family throughout his life in spite of his handicaps. Thank you to the staff at Park Manor Nursing Home, Concordia Hospital Emergency Ward, and Misericordia Hospital for their excellent care and kind support. The family also thanks niece Shirley Kozak for always being there for Pop and for treating him to his favourite foods. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., with Pastor Dan Abraham officiating. Internment will be held at a later date. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
