Katie joined the Navy (Wrens) in the 1940s. She left the Navy to marry her first husband John Semenowich in 1945. After this they moved to the Walkleyburg area. They had two sons John and Shaun. In 1961 Katies first husband, John passed away. Katie continued to run the farm. She went to work in Gillam as a cook for a few years, then came back home and worked making meals for a road gravelling crew, where she met her second husband Mike Krawchuk. She went from this chapter of her life to LPN training. After graduating, she worked at Beacon Hill Lodge in Winnipeg for several years. During this period of time she still kept a large garden in the country, and helped Mike on his farm in Brokenhead, Manitoba. Katie also was a foster parent for teens and young children. Later Katie and Mike sold the farm in Brokenhead and semi-retired to the farm in Walkleyburg. They enjoyed travelling and took many trips together. Katie was very active with the Jehovahs Witnesses up to the final days of her illness. Many people found Katie a very warm, loving and giving person. She was always sharing whatever she had, be it crops from her large garden, baking she had done, and most of all, her wisdom and her faith. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Selkirk General Hospital, also Richard Downing and the Jehovah Witness Congregation of Selkirk for all their help and support. There will be an evening service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2003 at The Kingdom Hall, 12 Hawthorne Place, Selkirk, Manitoba (off Calder Road, South of the Rolling Mill on the west side of Main Street).
