Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN BRYAN MACMARTIN (1937 - 2003) Suddenly, in Winnipeg on May 20, 2003, John Bryan MacMartin passed away. He was born in Winnipeg on May 24, 1937, son of John Edward (Jack) and Hazel MacMartin. He attended Kelvin High School and The University of Manitoba, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1958. As a former Air Cadet, he followed his dream of a career in the Royal Canadian Air Force, receiving his Wings as a Flying Officer, R.C.A.F. in 1959. He served at R.C.A.F Station, Comox, BC, as a navigator on Neptune aircraft, and at Ramore, ON, before completing another area of study as a Telecommunications Officer at R.C.A.F Station, Centralia, ON. He used his talents and expertise in technology at C.F.B. Cold Lake, AB from 1964 to 1969 at the Central Experimental and Proving Establishment (C.E.P.E), assisting with the technological development of the Primrose Range, which became the testing range for high technology weaponry. In 1969, he received a C.D. medal for military service, and transferred to the Supplementary Reserves, serving with the Search and Rescue Unit in Winnipeg while he completed his Master of Business Administration at The University of Manitoba. After graduating he became a provincial civil servant, holding a number of positions over the years. He enjoyed his work at the University Grants Commission, where he became Executive Director. Later on, he also enjoyed his work in information technology at Red River Community College, and at Manitoba Education and Training. He will be sadly missed by his wife Joyce and his son Cameron MacMartin of Winnipeg; his daughter Jocelyn, son-in-law Thomas Beveridge, and grandchildren, Bailey, Stephanie, and Patrick of Dallas TX; his daughter Cynthia MacMartin who also lives in the U.S.A; his mother Hazel MacMartin; his brother and sister-in-law Brock and Louise MacMartin, David, and Michelle; his brother and sister-in-law Michael and Charlaine MacMartin, and Ryan of Edmonton, AB; his sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Clint Castle, and Adam. His sister-in-law Lenore, and her family Chris, Kristen, and Karen Good, will also miss him, as will his brother-in-law Marvin Borgfjord and his family Marilyn, Dayna, Mark, and Michael. He was predeceased by a baby daughter, and by his daughter-in-law Carol MacMartin; also his father John Edward MacMartin; aunt Dallas MacMartin; grandmother Edith Smith; aunt Minnie McFarlane; uncle and aunt Jack and Bernice Price; father-in-law and mother-in-law Marino and Ellen Borgfjord. The funeral will be held on Friday, May 23, at 2:00 p.m., at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street). Pallbearers will be Brock MacMartin, Michael MacMartin, Ryan MacMartin, David MacMartin, Clint Castle, and Adam Castle.
