Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLENA HNATIUK On Thursday, May 22, 2003, Lena passed away peacefully with her children by her side at the Selkirk General Hospital at the age of 82 years. Lena will be lovingly remembered by her children, Marilyn (Ralph) Brown, John (Olive) Hnatiuk; grandchildren, Shannon (Dan), Christopher, Calvin, Terry and great-grandchildren, Jesse, Hayley, and Naomi. She was predeceased by husband William on September 12, 1995. Lena was born on September 16, 1920 in Rembrandt, MB. She was a wonderful home-maker for her entire 59 years of married life. After living in various communities, she and her late husband settled in Selkirk, MB to spend many happy years of retirement together. During that time, she belonged to the Holy Eucharist Parish, the Selkirk Royal Canadian Legion and the Over Sixty Club. Lena was renowned for her delicious perogies, cabbage rolls, dill pickles, baking and produce from the garden, all of which she enjoyed sharing with her family. She took great pride in nurturing her beautiful African violets. In addition, Lena knitted and crocheted countless items for family and friends. She will be remembered for her love of family, quick wit and sense of humour. Prayers will be said on Sunday, May 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Selkirk, with Father Peter Chorney officiating. Interment to follow at the Rembrandt Cemetery, Rembrandt, MB. Thank you to all who assisted Mom during her illness, especially Jim Holt, Lorraine and Jim Stevens, her homecare workers, Dr. Ursula Luitingh and the wonderful nurses at the Selkirk General Hospital. A special thank you to Frieda, Laura and Kay and her other neighbours at KOTR II for their kindness and concern. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Manitoba Division, Divisional Office, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, R3G 3M3.
