MARLENE HAZEL SLEMMONS (nee MORRISON) 1933 - 2003 Peacefully, on Friday May 23, 2003 at Riverview Health Centre, Marlene passed away at the age of 69 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Marlene will be sadly and lovingly missed by her husband of 50 years, Douglas, her daughter Carol Moar; grandchildren, Pamela Sterzer and Brian Sterzer, and puppy Brandy, all of Winnipeg. She will also be greatly missed by brother, Jim Morrison of Gatineau, QC, Doug Morrison of Vancouver, BC, and foster daughter Linda Provost of Vancouver, BC. Also, brothers and sisters-in-law, Shirley (Jack) Passey, Jean Lund, Laura (Ed) Kostenko, all of Winnipeg, and sister-in-law Carol Morrison of Edmonton, AB. As well, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who were such a meaningful part of her life. Marlene was predeceased by her mother Hazel Morrison (nee Cook), her father, John Morrison, brother Leslie Morrison, sister-in-law Elizabeth Morrison, and father-in-law, Gordon Slemmons. Marlene was born June 23, 1933 in Winnipeg, grew up in St. James, and spent part of her childhood living in Garson, MB. After marrying in 1953, she and Doug resided and worked in Winnipeg for 30 years. Following retirement, they lived for the past 20 years on the golf course at Sandy Hook, MB. Marlene enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, and spending time entertaining her family and friends. She particularly enjoyed planning, cooking, and decorating for special occasions. Marlene loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to visit family and friends in Canada, Europe, and the United States, and in recent years, spending winters in California and Arizona. Marlene worked for 10 years in the record and music departments at Eatons and Woolco. After obtaining a real estate license, she worked for Adway marketing selling and renting condominiums. Marlene also worked with her husband Doug for 20 years helping plan and host conventions for Investors Group. Marlene will forever be remembered for her strength, strong will, loyalty, and love for her family and friends. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at CancerCare Manitoba, St. Boniface Hospital, Home Care Manitoba, and Riverview Care Centre - Palliative Care Unit 3E, as well as the VON nurses and staff for their care, compassion, and support. We would also like to extend our thanks to our friends and family for their love and support during the past 1 years. At Marlenes request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, May 28 at 3:00 p.m at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, MB.
