RAYMOND (MICKEY) SCHWAB
Date of Passing: May 24, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRAYMOND (MICKEY) SCHWAB Suddenly on Saturday, May 24, 2003 while on the golf course Mickey passed away. It was the script he wrote for himself. Survived by his beloved wife Janice; and children, Laurie Slater (Kevin), Rae Saville (Chris Gower), Troy (Pat Kopec) and Carrie. The sparkle in his eye came from his grandsons, Keegan, Kassidy, Mathieu and Alexander. Also survived by brothers, Edward, Don, Chris and Dwayne; sisters, Maryanne and Marlene; numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and outlaws. Predeceased by his mother (Frances), father (Frank), sister (Caroline), brother (Joseph) and his first wife (Patricia). His passing also reunites him with Snowball. He grew up in Kerrobert, SK in a large family. His best memories were of the many adventures he shared with his brother Edward. Their favourite stories included their days playing high school hockey in Kerrobert, junior hockey in Prince Albert and the United States. He coached minor hockey in Regina and Winnipeg, and has been a convener for the Winnipeg East Hockey League for many years. He spent many hours coaching, chauffeuring and cheering for his children at many local rinks and ball diamonds. He retired from Northern Paint after 35 years in 2000. His early career was on the road and took him to almost every small town in Canada and the north-eastern United States. He worked and lived in Edmonton, Saskatoon and Regina before settling his family in Winnipeg. He was well liked and respected by his staff and customers, who always asked for Mickey! After retiring he took his new career of househusband seriously. Mostly, retirement was about pursuing his passions, which include his golf game, travel, and hanging out with his best buddy, Mathieu. He found much joy in spending time with his grandsons. Golfing with Keegan, chauffeuring Mathieus first grade class, or teasing Kassidy and Alex with that twinkle in his eye. His favourite past times, were spent on the golf course with Janice, family and friends, highlighted by the yearly Good Spirit trip; cheering on the Saskatchewan Roughriders; spirited card games with family and friends, where he recycled the same jokes over and over; celebrating holidays with family, and it will not be the same without Dad in the kitchen stuffing the turkey or carving the ham; hanging out with Mathieu, who will miss their special relationship; attending Schwab family reunions were special times for him. He was active in St. Bernadette Parish where he greeted other parishioners on Saturday nights. His religion was very important to him and taught his children the importance of faith, family, strong character and most of all to laugh. He will be missed by those who were touched by his kindness, generous nature and constant teasing. Special thanks to the St. Barts Saturday mourning Mens Golf Group and Ste. Annes Ambulance Service for their valiant efforts and to the Ste. Annes hospital staff for their care and compassion. Thank you for all you have given us Dad. We will share many tears and smiles as we tell Mickey stories over and over. We love you very much. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 29, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Bernadettes Church, 820 Cottonwood Rd. Interment will take place at a later date in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes or a charity of your choice. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematorium Hwy.
