REISA SHAPIRA (nee WEIDMAN) Peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2003, Reisa Shapira passed away at the Simkin Centre at the age of 82. Predeceased by her loving husband David of 54 years, her brother Lewis and sister Betty. Lovingly remembered by her children Gary (Irene) of Winnipeg, Sheila of New York and Sid (Sheryl) of San Diego; her grandchildren, Jared, Laura, Casey and Ivan; and a beloved extended family. A truly remarkable woman, Reisa lived her life with dignity, tolerance and intuitive wisdom. She embraced everyone who came into her life with acceptance and respect. Always a source of support and encouragement, Reisas insight was unusually special. Her strength, determination and courage carried her through life. Her final hour was filled with clarity and consideration when she spoke with all of her children leaving them comforted with this lasting memory. The art she created throughout her life continues to inspire. Graveside services were held Monday, May 26 at Shaarey Zedek Memorial Park with Rabbi Green and dear family friend Rabbi Berkal officiating. Pallbearers were Ben Berkal, Morris Karp, Saul Rifkin, Steven Schipper, Archie Stone and Mark Stone. Honorary pallbearers were David Polinsky and Dr. Marvin Wolch. The family is grateful for the superb care and support from the staff at the Sharon Home and the Simkin Centre where Reisa spent the last 10 years of her life. Donations may be made in Reisas memory to the Simkin Centre.
