ROBERT GORDON (BOB) SALTER Passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2003, in the presence of his wife and family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Winnipeg on January 23, 1933. Predeceased by his parents Bill and Mary; and his brother Gerry. Bob is survived and will be lovingly remembered by June, his wife of 48 years; daughters, Carol (Gary), Susie (Gord), Pam (Alan) and son Rob (Peggy) grandchildren, Sean, Adam, Bethany, Lucas, Travis, Brock, Carly, Chelsea and Cole who were the delight of his life; his brothers, Bill (Sally), Ron (Marianne), Glenn (Sandy) sisters-in-law, Grace and Pearl; and numerous other relatives. Bob worked for the City of Winnipeg North End Water Pollution Control Centre as a senior operator for 25 years. He retired with his wife June in 1986 to Sooke, BC, where he could pursue his passions for fishing and gardening. Anyone who knew Bob found that beneath his gruff exterior was a heart of gold. Always willing to help a friend, Bob could build or fix anything. He was an environmentalist before anyone knew what the word meant. His foresight to recycle any scrap of metal, used auto part, or anything else imaginable resulted in one-stop shopping for anyone who needed something repaired. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Bobs life on Thursday, May 29, 2:00 p.m., at the Sooke Pentecostal Church, 6851 West Coast Road. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Sooke Hospice, Box 1052, Sooke, BC V0S 1N0. The family would like to thank Dr. Wilson and the nurses at the B.C. Cancer Clinic, Dr. Chris McCallum, Sooke Hospice and Home Care for their exceptional care and compassion.
