CAPT. JOHN DONALD (DON) MOYSE (Retired)
Date of Passing: May 27, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCAPT. JOHN DONALD (DON) MOYSE (Retired) 1932 - 2003 Following a courageous battle with cancer, Captain John Donald Moyse (retired) passed away peacefully and with quiet dignity at Riverview Health Centre, Tuesday, May 27, 2003. Don will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years Carole; his daughter Sharon and Grant Borger; his two sons, Bradley Moyse and his dear friend Bill Grindell, and Douglas and Darlene Moyse; and the "pride and joy" of his life, his three grandchildren, Hailey Moyse, Hunter Borger and Justin Moyse. Don will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Geraldine (Vern) Elliot and Audrey MacPhail; brother-in-laws, Bill (Sandra) Badger, Bill Jones; and sister-in-law Thora (Jim) Meade. Don leaves many special nieces and nephews who will miss him forever. With great admiration, the family would like to express their gratitude to Grant MacPhail, his wife Cheri and their son Tyler for having displayed such kindness, dignity and love during Dons last days with us. "Uncle Donnie" would be very proud of you all. Don will be sadly missed by all his "buddies" at the Kinsmen Reh-Fit Centre. Don will be missed so very much by his two dogs ("babies"), Ruby and Marco. Don was predeceased by his mother Gladys Marita Rea Moyse; his father John Moyse; his brother-in-laws, Howard Gillam and Murdo MacPhail; and his sister-in-law Sandra ("Sandy") Jones, and "Amma". Don was born and raised in Winnipeg, a true West End kid. His childhood was, to say the least, humble, but under circumstances that would have broken most, his dreams and goals allowed him to rise above his lot in life and attain anything he set his mind to. Flying was his biggest dream and his first true love. Don joined Trans-Canada Airlines (Air Canada) in February of 1953, and was the youngest pilot to ever be hired by the airline. His first flight with Air Canada was June 28, 1953, and his last flight as Captain was May 20, 1985. He had accumulated 26,000 flying hours during his wonderful career. Aside from work, Dons other love was the cottage at West Hawk Lake. Dads famous rendition of "New York, New York" will be happily remembered by so many who spent time with him at the lake. The fond memories there will always be cherished. Dads legacy will live on in the laughter of family and friends, and the sound of childrens voices at West Hawk Lake forever. The family would like to thank Dr. Ian Maxwell and all the staff at the Victoria Hospital Oncology Department, with special thanks to Anne and Penny. Our heartfelt thanks to Riverview Health Centre for their loving care to Don and all the family. Special thanks to Heather, and both Lindas, and Evelyn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria General Hospital Oncology Department or Pet Rescue Shelter, 3062 Portage Ave. A service in celebration of Dons life will take place at 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 30 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with Rose Ferries officiating. "Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth Put out my hand and touched the face of God" Rest eternal grant unto him O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him Arrangements entrusted to CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
