Date of Passing: May 27, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEUGENE M. YAKIMOSKI It is with profound sadness that on May 27, 2003, following his long and courageous battle with cancer, our husband, father and grandfather, Eugene Metodie Yakimoski, peacefully, with his family at his side, passed on at the age of 64. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 42 years, Adel; his three children, Blair and Amy Yakimoski, Corinne and Tom Gnutel, and Lorinne and Dave McMillan. For his precious grandchildren, Chad, Scott, Michaella, Laryssa, Shayla, and Ryan, Papa will always be that wonderfully special man who always had time for a game or a hug, Eugene also leaves four sisters and two brothers from a family of five sisters and five brothers. During the passing of his parents and siblings, Eugene always found strength in the church which Andrew and Eva lovingly raised him in. Born in Ituna, SK, on November 28, 1938, he attended school in Lunville, played hockey on the frozen ponds of the farm and baseball in its fields, and trapped muskrats to raise enough money to come to the big city of Winnipeg, to seek lifes treasures. It was here he found his two passions, groceries and Adel. From that first fateful night at his sister Roses, Eugene was hooked; they married, raised three children, and after many years working for a corporate grocery chain, their newest baby, Eugenes IGA was born. After, came Concordia IGA, where Dad built his business to a level where he became a respected member of the East Kildonan business community. Customers developed into friends that Eugene loved to talk with and take care of all their grocery needs. Over the years Eugene and Adel travelled extensively with friends from their IGA Family, and experienced cultures from all over the world. This confirmed Dads love, for his home and family, even more. Eugenes attitude and love for life was an inspiration to many family and friends who he always made time for when entertaining at home or on the links of a local golf course. Eugene was a master gardener when planting the seed of Christianity in his children, and grandchildren, and his actions and words have nurtured those seeds to grow strong. Many thanks to all that have offered up prayers during Dads struggle, the love shown has been truly powerful, as well as humbling. Prayers will be offered on Friday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Annes Ukrainian Catholic Church, 455 Douglas Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, May 31 at 10:00 a.m., also at the church, with Rev. Fr. Walter Klimchuk and Rev. Fr. Micheal Krochak officiating. Interment to follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in his memory to the St. Annes Church Building Fund or to a charity of ones choice. KNYSH FUNERAL CHAPEL 1020 Main St. 582-0973
