KATHARINA WOELK Suddenly, but peacefully, on Wednesday, May 28, 2003, Katharina Woelk passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 92 years. Katharina (Tina) was born on October 21, 1910 in Eichenfeld, Ukraine, one of five children of David and Maria Woelk. She suffered many hardships amidst the tumult that followed the First World War, including the loss of her father. Her mother remarried and her family grew to include 13 brothers and sisters. In 1949, Tina was allowed to immigrate to Canada along with her mother and sisters. She rebuilt her life in Winnipeg and she found work at the General Hospital (now the Health Sciences Centre) where she was employed for 25 years until her retirement in 1975. She was a devoted member of the First Mennonite Church for 53 years. She was active and busy until the very end, and she especially enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading. Tina is survived by sisters, Anna Andres (Cornelius) and Katja Schoenke, sisters-in-law Agnes Pauls and Anna Pauls, and by many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews in Canada and Germany. Her nieces and nephews, and their families, were very dear to her. She will be lovingly remembered for her devotion to her family, her kind and caring nature, and for her sense of humour. She never complained. Rather, her life was one of service to others. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 2, at 10:30 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, Winnipeg, with Rev. Hermann Dueck officiating. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. KLASSEN Funeral Chapel 1897 Henderson-North of McIvor-338-0331
