Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryONIE MARGARET MARY LEYDEN CLUBB November 29, 1909 - May 28, 2003 Winnipeg, MB On Wednesday, May 28, 2003, peacefully with her family and friends by her side, Onie Clubb passed away at the age of 93 at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. Onie was the second of four children born to George and Mary Jane Leyden. She attended St. Marys School and St. Marys Academy in Winnipeg where she took top honours in the commercial course and also enjoyed sports, violin and piano. She became a top-notch stenographer and loved to show off her flawless shorthand well into her 90s. As a young woman she played tennis, bowled, danced, roller and ice skated and was always the life of the party. In 1942 she was swept off her feet by John Clubb, a pharmacist, tennis player, and great dancer. Together they were life members of the Winnipeg Canoe Club. They started their family with Jimmy, who died in infancy. After the Second World War they had four daughters, Barbara, Pat, Susan and Carole. In 1948 the family moved to Warsaw Avenue which for the next 50 years became a remarkable community of support and friendship. Onie was always busy helping with homework, making dance costumes, driving the girls and their friends to swimming, skating, music and choir, camp and Girl Guides. She also devoted many hours to her beloved womens pharmacy auxiliary. Her many interests included bridge, skating, bowling, sewing, knitting, needlepoint and entering jumble contests. Onie spent every summer at the family cottage at Grand Beach. In later years, she and John also travelled throughout Canada and internationally. In 1999, Onie moved to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg where she received wonderful care from the dedicated staff who also became her friends. Onie leaves behind her four daughters and their families, Barbara (Kevin Burns) from Ottawa, Pat (David McPherson), Susan (Tom Pundyk) and Carole from North Vancouver; four beloved grandchildren, Katie, Malcolm, Madeleine and Jeffrey; her brother Don and wife Rita; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and her faithful friend Peggy Gardiner, as well as friends from the Warsaw and Grand Beach communities. Onie was predeceased by her parents, her infant son Jimmy, husband John, brother Phonse, and sister Roma, and brother-in-law Wally. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends desire, donations may be made in Onies memory to the St. Marys Academy Bursary Fund, 550 Wellington Cres., Winnipeg, MB R3M 0C1 or to a charity of their choice. Prayers will be held in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, Broadway at Furby, on Sunday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Ignatius Church (Stafford/Corydon).
