MICHAEL ZARZYCKI (ZEDD) After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, Dad and Gigi on May 24, 2003 at Seven Oaks General Hospital with family by his side, at the age of 71 years. Dad will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Olga; sons, Michael, Gordon (Irene), Tom (Cara) daughter Anna-Marie (Michael) sister Elsie "Liz" (Bernie) and nieces, Lori, Linda, April and Bambi. Dad had a very special love for his three grandchildren, Michael, Shae-Lynn and Ryan, who filled his life with great happiness and pride. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Mary. Dad was born in Winnipeg on May 7, 1932. He was raised within the Ukrainian community having participated in the Bandurist Choir, AUUC Dance Ensemble and the AUUC Orchestra. Dad loved to tell stories of his high school years at Isaac Newton High. He fondly recalled his involvement in the school music program and the operettas. He would often break into songs from the Mikado and Pirates of Penzance. Dad graduated in 1951. Dad spent the next several years working at Eatons. He left for a successful 20 year career with General Distributors - Saan Stores, where he had the opportunity to travel throughout North America and the Orient. In 1992, Dad started the dollar craze in Winnipeg with the opening of his "Bargains for a Dollar" stores. Dads smooth salespitch made it difficult for anyone to walk out of his stores with only one item. No matter who Dad was with, he could always be heard saying "You paid how much? At my store its only one dollar." Dad will always be remembered for his sense of humour, his Columbo and Yo-Yo man impersonations, playing Tarzan off the furniture, and his many stories on any subject - whether you wanted to hear them or not. Going for drives with Dad meant listening to his many stories of how all the places we passed got their names. Dads suffering has now ended and for that we are thankful. We are also thankful for everything he has done for us, for his love, and for his many years of hard work in order that a better and more enjoyable life would be had by the family. A cremation and private family service has taken place. Flowers gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or charity of choice. You will be missed dearly. We will treasure our memories until we meet again. Love you always and forever.
