ALMER JOHNSON September 23, 1913 - May 28, 2003 On May 28, 2003, my Dad slipped gently and peacefully into the night and went to be with my Mom in heaven. My Dad was a gentle, decent, kind, considerate man, who never complained and was generous to a fault. He loved Cindy, Justin and I without condition, but his love for my Mom left him lonely and wishing for the day God would let them be together again. On Wednesday morning God heard our prayers and my Dad got his wish. My Mom and Dad both worked at the T Eaton Company, where they met, then married, shared a life for 47 years and eventually retired to their winter home in Texas. Dad served in the Canadian Air Force during the war and was an accomplished woodcarver. Dad is survived by his son Wayne, daughter-in-law Cynthia, and grandson Justin; his nephews and nieces, Herb (Leslie) Johnson, Dave (Brenda) Johnson, Bob (Lynn) Johnson, Marion (Larry) McIntosh, Gertrude (Bruce) Dejong and their families; his brother-in-law George Townsend, his children Pat and Bruce, his wife Verna and her daughter Leslie (Gene) Saxby and their families; his brother-in-law Jack, his children John (Pam), David (Barb), Sharron (Bruce) Harkness and Jane and their families. I would like to thank the staff at the Kildonan Personal Care Home for the generosity and kindness they showed Dad. I always left the home wondering how these special people went to work day after day and provided not only care, but gave so much of themselves that you would have thought they were caring for their own grandparents. The Reverend Stephen Sharman will officiate at a memorial service that will take place on Monday, June 2, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrews on the Red, 3 St. Andrews Rd. A reception will follow. In accordance with my parents wishes, cremation has taken place and Mom and Dad will be interred together at Brookside Cemetery following the reception. In lieu of flowers, our favourite charity is Darcys Arc (an animal rescue centre), 1793 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0E8.
