WILLIAM SCHMIDT Peacefully on May 30, 2003 at Holy Family Nursing Home, William Bill Schmidt, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, passed away at the age of 94 years. He is survived by sons, Eric Schmidt of Winnipeg, Bill Schmidt Jr. (Lucienne) of Fairfield, CA; daughter Joyce Pura of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Mercedes (Louis) Lyons of Richmond, TX, Roxanne (Mike) Corridan of Monterey, CA, Monica (Steve) Russell of Fairfield, CA, Tim (Donna) Pura of Calgary, AB, Ken Pura, Joanne (Armin) Barth and Wendy Pura all of Winnipeg; great-grandchildren, Lisa Pura, Jason Pura both of Calgary, Brittany Barth, Kyle Barth of Winnipeg, Max, Kateri, Brenns, Oscar, Tresa Rose (who is due to arrive on June 22, 2003) Lyons of Richmond, TX. He also leaves to mourn his passing niece Caroline Stark and family of Koln, Germany; nephews, Emanuel Schmidt, Emil Schmidt (Hedweg) and their families in Koln, Germany, Richard Esslinger of Teulon, MB, John (Shirley) Esslinger of Petersfield, MB, Larry Esslinger of Edmonton, AB and Ron Esslinger of Ontario. He was predeceased by his wife Nellie on April 26, 1986; parents, George and Karoline Schmidt; brothers, Phillip, Faldine, Adolph, Johan, Ludwig, Heinnich; sisters, Mrs. Katie Schnell and Mrs. Mary Esslinger; grandson Robert Pura; nephews, Phillip Schnell, Ernest Schnell; and niece Caroline Amy. Dad was born in Stryj, Galica, Poland. He came to Canada in 1926 and resided with his sister, Mrs. Katie Schnell in Morden, MB. Dad had several jobs, working on the farms, flourmill, gold mines and cutting cordwood. For the balance of his working days he was a housepainter and ran his own business Acme Decorators for years. His expertise was mixing colours; he could mix and match any colour you desired. Dad loved the outdoors, fishing, birds and the family dogs. He loved to dance and would never miss a good polka. He enjoyed family gatherings and was proud of his family. His greatest joy was his grand-children and great-grandchildren. We will all miss him very much. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and his caregivers at Seven Oaks Hospital, also the sisters, nurses and staff of 5A at Holy Family Nursing Home for all their compassionate care, patience and attention they gave Dad. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave., or Seven Oaks Hospital, or a charity of you choice in memory of William. Pallbearers will be: Eric Schmidt, Ken Pura, Tim Pura, Armin Barth, and John Marceniuk. Honorary pallbearers are: Bill Schmidt Jr, John Esslinger and Richard Esslinger. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
